Dihlabeng Local Municipality
The Dihlabeng Local Municipality is situated within the boundaries of the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality in the eastern Free State. The geographical area is 7 550 491km2 and consists of the towns Bethlehem, Clarens, Fouriesburg, Paul Roux and Rosendal.
Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality
The Maluti-A-Phofung local municipality is made up of four former TLC Local Authorities which are Qwaqwa Rural, Phuthaditjhaba, Harrismith and Kestell. The rural areas of the municipal area comprise commercial farms and major nature conservation centres such as the Qwaqwa National Park, Platberg, Sterkfontein Dam and Maluti Mountain Range.
Mantsopa Local Municipality
The Mantsopa Local Municipality comprises of the previous areas of jurisdiction of Tweespruit Transitional Local Council (TLC), Ladybrand TLC, Hobhouse TLC, Excelsior TLC, ThabaPatchoa TLC and Maluti Transitional Rural Council. The municipality borders the Kingdom of Lesotho in the east, Mangaung Local Municipality to the west, Naledi Local Municipality to the south and Masilonyana and Setsoto to the north. Following the 2011 local government elections which resulted in the establishment of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality and the disestablishment of the Motheo District Municipality, the Mantsopa Local Municipality was incorporated into the Thabo Mofutsanyana district municipality.
Nketoana Local Municipality
Nketoana is situated in the north eastern parts of the Free State within the regional boundaries of the Thabo Mofutsanyane District Municipality. The local municipality area measures 5 598.16 km2 in extent and comprises four urban areas namely Reitz, PetrusSteyn, Lindley and Arlington as well as their surrounding rural areas.
Phumelela Local Municipality
The geographical area of the Phumelela Local Municipality is 7550.4910 square kilometers. The major towns that form part of the Phumelela municipal area are Vrede, Warden and Memel.
Setsoto Local Municipality
The Setsoto Municipality is situated in the Eastern Free State within the regional boundaries of the Thabo Mofutsayana District Municipality. The local Municipal area measures 5 948.35 km2.The major towns that form part of Setsoto are Ficksburg (municipal head office), Senekal, Clocolan and Marquard.
